The satisfaction of preparing architectural drawings lies in keeping in mind a vivid picture of the finished 3d product. The architectural drawings range from 3d technical drawings to detail, design drawings; these drawings are usually a follow up to sketches and images and are now final drawings either for presentation or construction or both combined, depending on the job in hand and its scope. A working drawing that is weighed down with numerous dimensions and notifications is as representative of what it depicts as much as a rendered presentation architecture drawing art is, even if not quite as painterly. Drawings presented here have been drawn both on the drawing board as well as on auto cad. Some of these hand drawn drawings especially those that include a touch of drama like for film and commercials combine a 3d technical, detail and design drawing approach as well as a presentation approach placing them in a category that qualifies for the presentation in this gallery.

hand drawn and rendered presentation, elevation drawings forming part of a drawing package for planning application submission for a building in london. 'architectural models section', ante shows model of this building under pic. nos. 1 to 4. the relevance of three dimensional representation is a no brainer.

elevation and vertical section through building showing existing areas and new proposed floors in the building for submission to planners in the drawing package.

front elevation showing outline section through third party adjoining building. drawing includes relative site plan from ordinance survey library sheets.

the architectural practice decides that a complete package includes a drawing showing an array of elevations local to the client's prestigious, prime site building. this drawing completes the picture both from the client's point of view as well as to the planners' satisfaction.

technical drawings including sections, foot prints and axonometric representations of an existing building outside london for overseas clients. the project includes extensive alterations to a commercial building and the drawings package consists of both old and new proposed. three dimensional representations are included for clarity and for an easier understanding. images of models in next pic. 2/2 are for the same reason.

pictures of model show new proposed building. this three dimensional package is offered to the planners both in model form and in pictorial form from various perspectives. the new build is offering extensive, new office space to the client. these new, block-form builds, however unexciting, offer a three dimensional understanding and solution in the efficient use and internal circulation of the new building.

large scale elevations on strips of paper circa two metres in length showing the entire height of this building outside london, restored to its original state, they are drawn with planners and client in mind and to impress and to sell the job to the client who has seen the building in its run down state. the set of dwgs includes hand drawn and rendered drawings for a clearer, three dimensional understanding of the job in hand.

a smaller scale version in the package. one of the rendered drawings that has to show only sufficient detail that will still be legible when reduced in size to be included in the presentation brochure.

a fairly irregular office foot print in the city of london, drawn on c. a. d. this high premium space has to be maximised to give maximum returns. the object is to fit a module that can be repeated as often as possible, and includes efficient and safe circulation inside an irregular area. this turns out to be a two dimensional challenge on one floor and a three dimensional exercise, floor to floor.

another computer aided drawing of a corner building in central london. the building has listed external and internal elevations and is a change of use exercise, from bank to spa club at ground floor and basement levels. a challenging three dimensional, quite unique exercise.

some of the internal elevations are kept in their entirety and restored to form part of the interior decor. the interiors are also visible from the outside through the side windows and also from the front and are a selling point to the un-initiated, prospective client

computer aided drawing of curtain walling office building in central london. this unexciting work is carried out with the minimum of effort on a computer package. a detail of one bay including transoms, mullions, structure, horizontal spandrels in between, etc are solved in detail as a one off exercise and repeated as often as is necessary at a click. the antithesis of creativity; it probably fires one's will to be creative, in an adverse sort of way.

the following set of three drawings is about the development of a sloping site, rising away from the water edge, into residential property. the buildings are sunken, two floors low and respectful of the surrounding rural landscape. they are scattered with generous amounts of private and public space in between residences. dwg. 1. shows one residential building on plan and elevations as a promotional exercise.

drawing shows elevations from four different perspectives of a group of residences working in a cluster. both in this dwg as well as in the previous dwg, am amount of landscaping is included local to the buildings to give a three dimensional effect and a sense of depth, approach and slope of the site in question.

the total foot print showing the development of the project and a longitudinal section through it depicting scope of project and showing landscaping and outdoor amenities available to residents and public access for this proposed submission for the development of this land.

sixteen pictures: isometric/axonometric, hand drawn rendered dwgs and sketches of an array of furniture for a restaurant and lounge bar outside london. the main property and advantage of this method of working dwg / presentation dwg is that a dwg is a true, to-scale, on-plan and on-elevation drawing set at determined, complementary angles to the 'x' and 'y' axis of the drawing paper. it has the added visual effect of a perspective or 3 d view of the object drawn, but with no foreshortening.
